Are Learners With Besd Supported In Secondary School Education Essay
There are a figure of footings to portray researchers with social difficulties. In prior mature ages they were ordered as being maladjusted characterized by The Underwood Committee Report on Maladjusted Children in 1995 as ââ¬Å" a people connection at an impossible to miss clasp to individuals and fortunes which make up his condition â⬠. This was along these lines prevailing by Emotional Behavioral Difficulties ( EBD ) as alluded to in the Particular Educational Needs ; Report of the commission of Enquiry Into the Education of Handicapped Children and Young People ( The Warnock Report ) ; HMSO ( 1978 ) . The Elton Report ( 1989 ) expressed a child had EBD when they demonstrated ââ¬Å" horrible and steady conduct employments as an outcome of enthusiastic or neurological irritation with the end goal that their requests can non be met in a normal school â⬠, Elton Report ( 1989 p.42 refered to in Wood, 1995, p14 ) . Inside this announcement I as of now notice the notice of interest for EBD understudies ââ¬Ë to be taught outside of ââ¬Å" standard schools â⬠, propelling the interest for avoidance or resettlement to hop provider of guidance. This definition does non see the unpredictability of impacts that add to the conduct itself. SEN codification of example This was accordingly supplanted by conduct, enthusiastic and A ; cultural difficulties ( BESD ) recognized in the SEN codification of example as: ââ¬Å" Children and juvenile individuals who exhibit qualities of social and passionate difficulties who are pulled back or detached, wild and troubling, overactive and need focus ; those with youthful cultural achievements ; and those indicating eager practices beginning from other complex specific requests. â⬠( DfES,2001a: 7:60 refered to in Capel, Leask and A ; Turner, 2009 ) . Here and there the way that the understudy has a SEN and the commended crazy conduct is the result is every now and again neglected. The power per unit zones of the guidance framework because of the unbending nature of the course of study, requests on raising achievement, low staffing proportions and clasp limitations, teachers decipher hard conduct as particularly harrowing because of the total of clasp spent on social issues rather than learning and larning as bolstered by Bennett ( 2006 ) . It is this refutation that has raised worry for this particular gathering and their consideration in the central model of the guidance framework. The Department for Children Schools and A ; Families ( DCSF ) , Statistical First Release ( SFR ) ( 2009 ) detailed an ascent of 7 % in enduring prohibitions from 2001/02 to 2003/04 with enduring avoidances making 8430, which so fell back to 7000 out of 2007/08 inside area supported optional schools. The examination other than distinguished that ; ââ¬Å" Students with SEN ( both with and without articulations ) are more than multiple times bound to be for acceptable barred than those understudies with no SEN. In 2007/08, 33 in each 10,000 understudies with proclamations of SEN and 38 in each 10,000 understudies with SEN without explanations were for acceptable prohibited from school. This contrasts and 4 in each 10,000 understudies with no SEN. The figures show a touch of reducing in the pace of fixed period rejections in optional schools for those understudies with SEN contrasted and the old twelvemonth. In 2007/08, the pace of fixed period prohibition for those understudies with articulations was 30.8 percent ; the rate for those with SEN without proclamations was 28.9 percent. This thinks about to 5.1 percent for those understudies with no SEN. â⬠( DCSF SFR, 2009 ) . I found the most significant aspect of this examination is the greater part of prohibitions both enduring and fixed period, where as an outcome of steady crazy conduct. This added to a solid 31 % to every enduring rejection during 2007/08 in region supported auxiliary schools in the UK ( DCSF SFR, 2009 ) as often as possible related with BESD researchers. This was double that of the accompanying significant endorser being physical ambush on another understudy. Having taken a gander at these figures clearly the incorporation of BESD understudies ââ¬Ë is still extremely much a high priority nation, sing the sheer volume of avoidances they speak to. As an after measure I have to investigate what practices and strategies are being placed in topographic point to help chop down this figure. It is apparent that BESD plainly stands apart from other SEN sobriquets. Numerous inside the guidance framework despite everything stay poorly characterized on the best way to pull off researchers who se SEN all the time appears to require retaliatory activity, conceivably including prohibition. It is uncommon to see a school arrangement that suggested a punitory reaction for a researcher who showed inconvenience in perusing as a result of a realized securing inconvenience. On the off chance that this were so all researchers perceived as holding a SEN with psychological harm like dyslexia, would be at continuous danger of prohibition simply in light of their SEN. Sensibly they would hold their requests met by an individualized program, including additional assets, larning support, additional clasp remittances, ICT handiness and considerably more. ( Null, 2008 ) .If an understudy is distinguished as holding BESD falls quarry to the avoidance discipline, is this a thought on the schools powerlessness to pull off and back up that understudy fail to run into the interest of the National Curriculum ââ¬Ës Inclusion Policy. Is it still satisfactory to express that now and again rejec tion might be the solitary choice non in the feeling of ââ¬Å" obtaining free â⬠as its negative intension suggests, yet to place the researcher in a situation that will be better prepared to vouch their privilege to a guidance. Already I imagined that avoidance was an office of making a trip on researchers to a progressively fit securing condition where they will hold better help. Having encountered the opposite side of avoidance, I question this move. There is turning worry over the capacity of proxy commissariats to run into the requests of the researchers in notice to the frequence of Sessionss accessible and the idea of the instructive possibilities on offer ( Gray and Panter, 2000 ) . Should more be done to thwart rejection, schools mirror the development and guidelines of the general public we live in and on the off chance that we can non learn BESD students how to get by inside the bounds of a school, how are they to pull off in the public arena where there is tiny help. Avoidance denies researchers of cultural cooperation and a high level of guidance, expanding the chances of them going antagonized, taking bit in against cultural conduct and slice bringing down their part to the state ââ¬Ës cultural and monetary prosperity ( Gray and Panter, 2000 ) . During a perception at School An, I recognized that as segment of the schools ââ¬Ë Plan for Success 2010-13 they needed to raise achievement of the most disastrous gatherings of understudies. I would like to investigate the present propensities of incorporation of BESD understudies ââ¬Ë and place what examples are acceptable in propelling their consideration in standard optional schools and their effectivity in propelling a positive securing condition, raising fulfillment and making great adjusted researchers who can achieve cultural and financial prosperity, in congruity with the Every Child Matters Aims.In request to comprehend what is being done to incorporate researchers I should premier indicate it.Inclusion is the expansion of commitment and diminishing of avoidance from, the civic establishments educational programs and networks of nearby schools. Incorporation is worried about the larning commitment of all students defenseless against exclusionary power per unit regions, non just those with SEN. Consideration is worried about bettering schools for staff each piece great concerning students.( Center for Studies on Inclusion in Education ( CSIE ) , 2000 ) .The pr esent national model is insert with qualities and rules back uping balance, decent variety and incorporation including the privilege of all researchers to dish a rich course of study, give opportunity to have a place and achieve. These rights were set out in the national course of study as a lot of rules presently known as the 'general consideration explanation' . The three boss guidelines for incorporation are ;The interest for fit obtaining challenges.Reacting to students ââ¬Ë various procurement demands.Overcome potential hindrances to larning and appraisal. These three principles spotlight, as it were, on what the school and teachers ought to make to make a positive securing condition for all researchers. For me the a large portion of import issue to see is the thing that additional assets and readiness are given to help educators give to single procurement requests. Having perused a few records on the viable heading of BESD understudies ââ¬Ë and sing a school with an insid e help unit, I have distinguished a few fruitful strategies that were reverberated in a few archives in propelling the incorporation of BESD understudies ââ¬Ë . In the course of the last barely any mature ages at that spot has been a consistent reduction in avoidances because of the expansion in help units with specific prepared staff inside standard schools with an end goal to propel incorporation. School An offered additional help for understudies ââ¬Ë at risk of avoidance in a help unit inside the school. From the start I saw the unit gave a situation that the understudies ââ¬Ë had a sense of security and ready to focus on their obtaining. The staff and understudies appeared to hold great associations with one another. Inside the unit it gave the idea that there were away from of the understudies ââ¬Ë as occurrences emerged when impacts were executed which the understudies ââ¬Ë reacted to. Research in 1999 by Ofsted distinguished that understudies with BESD favored working with educators who implied what they said and followed the festival yet house. Moreover the examination recognized that fruitful schools accepted that haple ss conduct is non the error of the understudy yet their response to the individuals and environing condition as shared by The Underwood Committee Report on Mala

Odyssey - Telemachos Analysis essays
Odyssey - Telemachos Analysis papers To thine own self be valid, is a well known Shakespearean statement, and one the character Telemachos in The Odyssey needed to battle to figure out how to appreciate. He is first acquainted with the peruser as being tame and detached, feeling as though guarding his family against the admirers is a miserable exertion. With the impedance of Athena, he starts to have confidence in both himself and his dad, returning after years abroad to recover the Ithacan seat. By the arresting finish of the book, Telemachos has demonstrated himself to be an excellent and courageous youngster. At the point when this epic starts, Telemachos and his mom Penelopes home is being abrogated by her admirers. Having experienced childhood in an orphan situation, Telemachos has not yet figured out how to go to bat for himself and is cynical about his dads return. As he converses with Athena, in the camouflage of Mentes in Book I, she says this of his demeanor, The divine beings proclaimed no absence of respect in this age: such is the child Penelope bore in you. However, reveal to me now, and make this understood to me: what gathering, what dining experience is this? Why here? A wedding? Revel? To the detriment, all things considered, Not that, I think. How pompous they appear, these indulgent people, making free here in your home! A reasonable man would redden to be among them. By saying this, Athena is addressing Telemachoss pride and why he would be so latent as to let the admirers do however they see fit his family unit without real explanation. By being quiet, Telemachos is acc omplishing more damage to his bequest than great. Another case of Telemachoss cynicism can likewise be found in Book I before he leaves to discover more data on Odysseus through Athenas guidance. He says to Eurymachos, one of Penelopes admirers: Eurymachos, theres no expectation for my dad. I would not confide in a message, in the event that one came, nor any forecaster my mom welcomes to advise by divination of time to come.... Telemachos is amazingly skepti... <!

Why Publish a Writers Diary
Why Publish a Writers Diary George Orwell doesnt REALLY need an introduction. If all you know about him is that he wrote some really amazing books, like 1984 and Animal Farm, then youre fine. But if your interest carries you further than his greatest hits, if youre familiar with a few of his deep cuts (Keep the Aspidistra Flying, Homage to Catalonia), then youll probably be interested in reading the new Diaries. Besides traveling the world from India to Spain, besides working and living with the poorest of the poor, and besides taking a fascist bullet in the neck during the Spanish Civil War, Orwell was also an avid gardener. But whenever the diaries of famous people are published, you have to wonder what their purpose is. There will always be super-fans of any artist, those who are never sated and always want MORE of the person behind the work. And of course, if done well, they can be very entertaining. But what does the biography of a writer who lived a boring life add to the discussion of their books? I think the case can be made that Orwells life and writing were so entangled that they both can only be fully appreciated as two parts of a larger whole. But would reading a biography of, say, Cormac McCarthy, really add all that much to reaching a more profound understanding of his work? It seems like a distinction, however artificial, can be made here between writers who turn inwards and writers who face outward, those who mine the dark pits of their own psyche, and those who trim material from the overgrowth of an external reality. Now, I know that haters might say Hey, everyone is affected by the world around them! or Hey, even people who write about the world around them are expressing profoundly personal things! And you would be right. But I think the whole purpose of creating this distinction between inward- and outward-looking writers is to be able to better judge who would have the best biographies and diaries. I think that Jonathan Franzen is a more consistent writer than William Vollmann, but never would I ever want to read Franzens diary. Vollmann has spent time hanging out with prostitutes and the poor, fighting with the Mujahideen in Afghanistan, exploring the Fukushima disaster, and trekking across the Arctic Circle. Yes, I would much rather read his diary. The cliché that has become a truism is that good writers can make anything interesting. But what isnt ever really talked about his how good readers will see through the bull crap everytime. William Burroughs, junky priest of the Beats and Punks, is by most standards a worse writer than Thomas Pynchon. But Pynchon is a recluse who hasnt left his house pretty much since he graduated from Cornell. Maybe he writes better, has more eloquent ideasbut unless his diary takes the form of daily literary essays, Id much rather read his concepts embodied in the language of his novels. Burroughs, on the other hand, lived an interesting enough to live to lead me to his diaries independent of his fiction writing. All this is to say that I think we should celebrate the publication of Orwells diaries. The publication of personal texts by other authors might smack of cheap opportunism, purely a money-making ploy. But I think publishers got it right with Orwell, just like I think they got it right with Burroughs and would do well to publish a diary (or even biography, PLEASE SOMEONE) of Vollmanns. Authors like these have works and lives that reflect each other, like two opposing mirrors, showing us a strange and comforting illusion of infinite complexity. Pursuit of Good Life - Free Essay Example
Sample details Pages: 4 Words: 1210 Downloads: 2 Date added: 2017/09/23 Category Advertising Essay Type Narrative essay Tags: Life Essay Did you like this example? Persuassive Essay, Draft 1 In the Pursuit of Good life In this very society, everyone is in the pursuit of good life. What is a good and happy life? There are many opinions as to what the so called ââ¬Å"good lifeâ⬠is. Some people believe that the good life is attainable through education, while others believe that following a rule of conduct would leave you leading the good life. Some have a version of having all those basic survival necessities and millions of dollars. Still, there are many questions that arise when trying to answer the question, ââ¬Å"what is the good life and how it can be attained? In my opinion, a good life is not about having lots of money or basic survival necessities. It is about having a good education along with good morals, believing in good karma or deeds, a healthy life, and having a very good relationship with your families, friends, and with neighbors. Why education? Education is the engine analogy for releasing understanding on a leve l that allows one to live a healthier, happy, more productive lifestyle. Education is the base that holds back immoral activity, unhealthy habits, addictions and increases income, too. Without education you will not be respected in todayââ¬â¢s society. To illustrate this, lets look at Malcolm X, one the most articulate and powerful leaders of black America during the 1960s. A street hustler convicted for robbery in 1946 and spent seven years in prison, where he educated himself and later emerged as the leading well known spokesman for black separatism (210). If, he hadnââ¬â¢t put himself into study, he would have been criminal and uneducated for the rest of his life and no one would have known who Malcolm X was. What makes the system turn in such a way that some people become educated and others donââ¬â¢t? Itââ¬â¢s all about the desire to become something and determination. It is just as important to be a good human being as well as educated person to lead a happy life. In terms of religion, how does it help in leading good life? As a Buddhist, we believe in good and bad karma or deeds, and we are taught to be compassionate towards others who are in need. Sometimes, we feel good by helping others even if it was a small help. It doesnââ¬â¢t matter how big or small is. The only matter is help. All Religion teaches us in various forms to become a good human and show a good mode of conduct. Man must know how to make use of his religion for his betterment and for his happiness in a respectable way. Simply by following certain religious vows and precepts with blind faith, thinking that we are duty bound to observe them will not develop proper understanding. According to Buddhism, it is up to us to follow the advice through our own understanding and experience of what is good for us and others. Through trial and mistakes, we will learn to follow the advice which will give us just peace and happiness. One of the Tibetan monks do in depression i s meditation. This set our mind free from all those problems and depression. It is the practice of mental concentration leading ultimately through a sequence of stages to the final goal of spiritual freedom of nirvana. However, meditation must be done under supervision of teachers. At the same time, certain good qualities such as patience and understanding are important assets to help us lead a peaceful life. Good life also involves a happy married life. Every relationship is a whole-hearted commitment to support and to protect others in a group or community. Marriage plays a very important part in this strong web of relationships of giving support and protection. It is a relationship between people who are in love and who believe in commitment, equality, gentleness, generosity and dedication. According to Evan Wolfson, ââ¬Å"What is Marriageâ⬠? ââ¬Å"Marriage is a specific relationship of love and dedication to another person. It is how the families are united because of love. And it universally signifies a level of self-sacrifice and responsibility and a stage of life unlike any otherâ⬠(99). In marriage, each partner develops a complementary role, giving strength and moral courage to one another. There must be no thought of either man or woman being superior; each is complementary to the other. People who consider only the physical aspects of love may think of acquiring another young patner. That type of love is animal love or lust. If a man really develops love as an expression of human concern for another being, he will not lay emphasis only on the external beauty and physical attractiveness of his partner. The beauty and attractiveness of his partner should be in his or her heart and mind. Almost everyday we hear people complaining about their marriages. Very seldom do we ear stories about a happy marriage. One of the major causes of marital problems is suspicion and mistrust. This leads to jealousy, anger, enmity, therefore many res ults in separation, suicide or even murder. So, it is very important to truthful relationship built on trust besides love. If a man can find a suitable and understanding wife and a woman can find a suitable and understanding husband, then their life would flow so smooth that it leads them to live a very happy and successful life. For some people money is very important as they believe happiness is just another component of the wealth. Yes, money can helps in obtaining material possessions, but it doesnââ¬â¢t buy you the close relationships held with friends, family, and lovers. Money doesnââ¬â¢t make you a whole person, in fact, if hinders you from the being your true self because of the fact that you have the power to obtain just about anything that can be bought. This mindset tends to make give off an attitude of arrogance and could result in disconnection from people, even from the ones you love. Happiness is found within a person self; through their own discoveries in e veryday life as well as their relationships with others. Money is unable to buy you love, genuine relationship. In fact, money brings insecurities and tension of losing it. How would you lead a happy life with tension and insecurities of losing money? In conclusion, in order to lead a happy, one must consider to have a good and healthy life, education with good moral to hold back immoral activity, unhealthy habits, and addictions and, very trustful relationship with your love oneââ¬â¢s. One must also believe in religions which teach us in various forms to become a good person and show good mode of conduct. Money shouldnââ¬â¢t be the sole pursuit as It only fulfills the basic necessities. One shouldnââ¬â¢t forget money comes + goes, but once the relationship is shattered with your wife, children, and friends. it is very hard to rebuild. So, do Works Cited X, Malcolm. Learning to Read. Career Counseling, And Super s Development Theory
Career counseling theories are as diverse as the counselors who practice them and the clients who experience them. Understanding and applying the appropriate theory for each unique client is imperative. Many career counselors use a variety of theories and techniques when working with students through their exploration and career commitment process. Career theories I will describe in this piece include, Social Cognitive Career Theory, Solution-Focused Career Counseling, and Superââ¬â¢s Development Theory. Additionally, theories I do not see using in my practice include, Trait and Factor Theory, John Hollandââ¬â¢s Theory of Types, and Gottfredsonââ¬â¢s Theory of Circumscription and Compromise. Limitations arise in all career counseling theories;â⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Three significant foundational themes of this theory are, self-efficacy, outcome expectations, and goals (Brown, 2016). Self-efficacy is an individualââ¬â¢s personal beliefs about their ability to perform specific behaviors or tasks. Outcome expectations refer to beliefs related to the valued outcomes or consequences produced from executing behaviors. Goals are defined as the decision-making process to engage in a task or activity. How these variables interact with other aspects of the persons environment, (gender, race, outcome hopes, personal goals, and genetically-determined characteristics), help in the career and academic decision-making process. It is also believed that individuals efficacy development is influenced and altered when interacting with theses environments (Brown, 2016). In short, individuals will mainly be interested in activities seen as possible and achievable, and where they w ill experience positive results. SCCT is an appropriate theory to apply with college students who choose a major based off a topic they did well in during their undergraduate year. For example, a student who excelled in a statistics class, might think they should become an accountant because they achieved a high grade. On the contrary, college students may stay clear of certain majors and careers because they did not do well academically. For example, a student may want to be a doctor, but does not perform well in biology class, and discourages theShow MoreRelatedCareer Counseling And Development Counseling1083 Words à |à 5 Pagespassionate about, it s not always easy turning them into something more. Free Essays on Egyptian Pyramids
What exactly are pyramids? How were they built, and who built them? And just what were they used for? Well, youà ¡Ã ¯re about to find out. There are over 90 pyramids in Egypt today. However not all of them are like the Great Pyramid in Giza1. Over a time span of 1100 years the pyramids evolved from layered pyramids to the well know sloped shape. The first pyramid built was the Step Pyramid of Djoser. This pyramid was built in 2630 B.C.E. and was intended to hold the mummy2 of Pharaoh Djoser. Using the Spanish Verb Seguir
Using the Spanish Verb Seguir The verb seguir carries with it the idea of to continue or to follow, but it can be used in a variety of ways that have other translations to English. Over-education in the graduate labour market Essay
Over-education in the graduate labour market - Essay Example Observing the actions taken by the regulatory bodies and the Government of UK, it can be observed that, over-education is a long term phenomenon and is hampering the work enthusiasm of the graduates. The situation of the labour market of UK is still suffering from the after effects of the global financial meltdown. Although, the corporate sector is growing all over the world, the job market has changed in terms of demand and recruitments processes. Moreover, the educational systems are also changing and focusing on designing courses that are suited more professionally, rather than the traditional learning style (Walker and Zhu, 2005). One of the major issues in the contemporary job market scenario is over-education of the candidates and the jobs being offered. This is reducing the potential limits of the students and is also hampering their future prospects. This study is based on evaluating the influence of the graduate workers in the UK. Majority of the scholars such as Walker and Zhu (2005) and Buchel, de Grip and Mertens (2003) have pointed out that, the primary factor behind the increase of over-education is the limited numbers of suitable candidates available in the job market. However, Dolton and Vignoles (2000) observed that the changes in the operational style of the corporate segment have also caused a rise in the number of over-educated employees. Most of the large scale business houses have segregated their work process into small and specific parts. This has limited the amount of skill required for employment and also reduced the scope of growth. Hence, the educational qualifications of the employees are often, more than their existing job profile. On the other hand, the limited number of jobs in the industry is also forcing the graduate candidates to work at lower level employment criteria adding to the factor of over-education among the graduates. Budria and Moro-Egido (2009) opined that, the overall in crease in the cost of living has

Analyze of Two Kinds by Amy Tan Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
Analyze of Two Kinds by Amy Tan - Essay Example There are many characters throughout the story, but the main focus of the story is about the relationship between Jing-Mei and her mother. By presenting the story like this, Amy Tan is able to divulge in how each character reacts to the other one. This would simply not be possibly if the focus was on a wider range of characters. Some of the other support characters are Lindo Jong (Jing-Meiââ¬â¢s aunt), Waverly Jong (Jing-Meiââ¬â¢s cousin), and Mr. Chong (Jing-Meiââ¬â¢s piano teacher). All of these characters are crucial to the story because they provide background to the relationship that Jing-Mei and her mother go through. Waverly Jong is an important character because she is everything that Jing-Mei is notââ¬âbright, smart and talented. Waverlyââ¬â¢s motherââ¬â¢s role is mainly to point this out to Jing-Meiââ¬â¢s mother so as to further push her towards controlling Jing-Mei. Mr. Chong is perhaps the one character who is light-hearted; he does not overly push J ing-Mei and tries to make playing the piano fun. The setting of this story is in California back in the 1960s. Not only is this an area that received a large amount of immigrants, but older people reading the story may be able to relate to it because it is similar to what they experienced back then. Another reason why the setting is so important is because of the way that immigrants were generally perceived back then. This helped to set up the basis of the story where Jing-Meiââ¬â¢s mother wanted to push her to become a child protege. This was perceived to be a way out of the typical stereotype of a Chinese immigrant and a way to assimilate into American society. The structure of Two Kinds is one than is simplistic and easy to read. After the narrator jots down an experience, she then gives her own opinions and reasons why she felt the way she did. This helps the reader to understand why she felt what she did. Also, there are plenty of quotes from the mother, giving the reader a chance to understand where she was coming from. It is not until the end of the story that the reader realizes that the main character in the story is retelling it from when she was a child. The author could have chosen to mention this point at the start, but I think that is makes the story seem more real by reading it as though it could happen today. Amy Tan uses more of a narrative style in this story to get her point across. This style allows the reader to become involved in the relationship between Jing-Mei and her mother. Because there are opinions of both the daughter and the mother that are offered, the reader is able to weigh up for themselves who is in the right and who is in the wrong. While Jing-Mei disagrees with the choices that her mother made for her, the tone displayed towards her is one of frustration yet respect at the same time. Jing-Meiââ¬â¢s attitudes toward her mother change in a positive way as the story progresses. The piano was the main symbol of this stor y. At the beginning, it was shown contempt by Jing-Mei because of the way her mother harassed her about playing it to perfection. By the end, however, Jing-Mei was able to fully respect the gift that it was and even took the time to sit down and play it. Also, the names of the two songs played at the end (ââ¬Å"Pleading Childâ⬠and ââ¬Å"Perfectly Contentedâ⬠) are symbolic of the way that Jing-Meiââ¬â¢

Strategic Manufacturing Management Questions and Answers :: Strategic Manufacturing Management Essays
Question 1: Hayes and Wheelright (1984) and Mintzberg (1987) spoke of strategy as a pattern of decisions. What do they mean by this? (5 Marks) Strategy is the pattern of decisions determining the organizationââ¬â¢s objectives, purposes, or goals. It outlines the principal policies and plans for achieving those goals, and clearly defines the range of businesses the organization has to pursue. Strategy as a pattern of decisions also highlights the nature of human and economic organization it intends to be, and the nature of the economic and noneconomic contribution it intends to make towards its stakeholders, mainly, the shareholders, customers, employees, and communities[1]. Mintzberg (1987), characterizing ten ââ¬Ëschools of thoughtââ¬â¢ in his consideration of strategy, has defined strategy as a pattern, a plan, a ploy, a position, and a perspective[2]. He has further classified different strategy making processes, specifying that a ââ¬Å"realised strategyâ⬠is ââ¬Å"emergentâ⬠and ââ¬Å"deliberateâ⬠as shown in Figure 1-1. Moreover, Mintzberg discusses the difference between strategic thinking and strategic planning, highlighting that planning involves analysis and thinking involves synthesis, and the outcome of strategic thinking is an integrated perspective[3]. For strategies to be ploys or plans, they need to follow a specific stream of actions. Plans or ploys are ââ¬Å"intended strategyâ⬠which are realized through patterns, as pointed out by Mintzberg. Figure 1-1 "Deliberate" and "emergent" strategy forming "realized" strategy[2] According to Hayes and Wheelright (1984) an implementation of strategy requires a structured integrative pattern of mutually supported decisions made over a period of time. Five characteristics that make up strategy are time, concentration of effort, impact, pattern of decision, and pervasiveness as stated by Hayes and Wheelwright. They also point out that effective operation strategies need to be consistent and contribute to competitive advantage. Consistency should prevail between operations strategy and business strategy, between operations strategy and the other functional strategies, and within different decision areas of operations strategy. In order to be able to positively contribute towards competitive advantage, the strategy should enable operations to set priorities right to enhance competitive advantage, clearly state the operations strategy for the rest of the organization to easily comprehend, accentuate opportunities where operations can complement business strategy, a nd ensure operating capabilities that may be required in the future. Hayes and Wheelwright (1984) have categorized different types of organizations based on their attitude towards operations in a four stage model. The four stages, as shown in table below are, Internally Neutral, Externally Neutral, Internally Supportive, and Externally Supportive, in the order[2].

Indian Festivals Essay
A festival is an occasion of enjoyment and celebration. Indian festivals are known to attract the world due to their harmony, variety, colour and excitement. Thus we can divide the festivals into three categoriesââ¬ânational or political, religious and seasonal. These are the festivals which punctuate the seasons of the year. National festivals like Republic Day, Independence Day, Gandhi Jayanti and others are celebrated with great patriotic fervour. Now-a-days they have been declared National Holidays. Religious festivals and ceremonies are as varied as the people, their customs beliefs and faith. In Northern India, Dussehra is observed as Vijaya Dashmi celebrating victory of good over evil, of Rama over Ravana. In Bengal, the occasion is celebrated as Durga Puja. This festival is celebrated with gaiety and lasts for five days. Diwali is the most prominent of the Hindu festivals. The Hindus celebrate this day to commemorate the return of Lord Rama to Ayodhya after winning the decisive war against the evil forces of Ravana. The Muslim celebrates Id-UI-Fitra. It is celebrated to mark the end of Ramzan. It was during the month of Ramzan that Holy Quran was revealed to Prophet Mohammed. Christmas is the greatest festival of the Christians. The festival marks birthday of Jesus Christ the founder of Christianity on 25th December. India is the only country where these festivals are celebrated with great devotion to the Almighty and seasonal variations. The main objectives of festivals are to bring people from different walks of life to welcome each section of society with open arms and to forget the narrow differences between one another.

Parents Ride The Merry Go Round - 979 Words
Some families ride the merry-go-round their whole lives and others take the roller coaster, which has ups and downs like Buckmanââ¬â¢s family in the movie Parent Hood. I thought of my family of us riding the merry-go-round. Until my grandpa died, as a three year old I thought that was the worst thing that could happen to anyone, ever. I thought as a family we had hit rock bottom and was never going to get through the pain. It did bring our family closer together. I realized that there is going to be more stressful situations, and just thought that the merry-go-round had just broken down for a minute. Until three years ago, nothing major happened in our family that I didnââ¬â¢t think as family we were not going to be able to get through. We are not the ââ¬Å"perfectâ⬠family anymore; we have gone through a lot ups and downs over the past years. One example, my parents saying they were going to get divorced. I was sitting on the couch, being lazy like a normal teenager, wh en my parents announced to me that there was a possibility that they were getting a divorce. I thought at first they were kidding but soon heard screaming everyday that seemed that went on forever. I had never heard my parents scream at each other like this. It sounded like two bears fighting over delicious food. I honestly never saw this coming and didnââ¬â¢t think our family was going to recover from this. Concept of Extended Self Briefly speaking, the concept of ââ¬Ëextended selfââ¬â¢ is the relationship between possession and sense of self. According to the opinions of Tuan(1980), ââ¬Ëour fragile sense of self needs support, and this we get by having and possessing thing because, to a large degree, we are what we have and possessââ¬â¢ , people would commonly have the tendency to expand their sense of self to what they have, as these things are innate parts of their bodies. Advertising The World Is Obsessed With Labels - 845 Words
The world is obsessed with labels; they are on everything, from our food to our clothes and even our vehicles. Labels help us avoid calorie dense foods, choose the right size shirt, and easily recognize our favorite brand of cereal. People are labelled as well; fill out a form at a doctorââ¬â¢s office or college application and you will label yourself when selecting your race and gender. With a quick swipe of a pen or a click of a mouse people label themselves as male or female, white or black, and everything in between. Consequently, our societal need for everything and everyone to be labeled, and our willingness to yield to those needs creates prejudices and inflicts discriminatory behavior on those who challenge their assigned labels or whose labels are deemed inferior. Advertising teaches consumer which brands are the best; with clever jingles and humorous skits, and bright attractive billboards companies convince consumers that their products are superior and deserving of their dollars. When the same logic and practices are applied to race, one race can be perceived as superior and more deserving of opportunities than others. For instance, past American commercials primarily portrayed white features as attractive and desirable leaving other ethnicities vastly underrepresented. Early twentieth century cartoons depicted African-American or blacks as uneducated and low-class. Managing Innovation And Continuous Improvements
Question: Discuss about the innovation management and continuous improvement of an organization. Answer: Introduction This paper is primarily concerned with the innovation management and continuous improvement of an organization. Innovation is the integral part of every organization and in order to retain the position of the organization in the global competitive market, it is necessary for the management of the organization to implement several innovative strategies (Dodgson, Gann and Phillips, 2015). Management of every organization has to understand that the demands of the customers are ever changing so it is necessary to implement the strategies in accordance with the demand of the customers. The role of the management does not end after just implementing strategies; it is the sole responsibility of the management of the organization to look after the continuous improvements to satisfy the need of the customer, the management of the organization has to implement new ways to organize things (Burns and Stalker, 2001). Leading and coordination are playing major role to undertake several new innovat ive strategies. Innovation in the management generates a long lasting impact on the mind of the customers and it helps to make them loyal. Every organization on this planet is working on development of new products. Task 1: Review Programs, Systems and Processes After thoroughly understating the case study, it has been observed that A.C Gilbert was one of the toy making companies in USA and the original name of the company was Mysto Manufacturing Company, which founded in 1909 as the Erector Set. At the very beginning period, the period was great success (Honey, 2007). They were known as the best toy maker in USA and the company was renowned for making top quality products. The problem of this company was the price is not low as they are maintaining the quality of the products. Supply Chain: A.C Gilbert had strong supply chain management, which helped the company to circulate the product at the doorstep of the customers. Supply chain management was a whole system that incorporates the raw products into a product. Supply chain management was a long and complex process, which helped to send the products from inventory to the consumers (Hubner, 2006). Supply Chain Management includes designing of the products and development of the concept of the products. In the planning process, the organization was working on using resources efficiently. At the third step, the organization was concentrating on purchasing of raw material and later manufactures toys by using raw materials. In the fourth step, the organization is focusing on the manufacturing of the products. After packaging, the product is sent for distribution. Operation System: Operation System of the organization is strong enough; it helps to maintain the day-to-day transaction process of the organization. With the help of the model, it can be demonstrated that management of the organization is maintaining the transactions. Operation System of A. C. Gilbert helped to keep the records of daily business transactions (Hutchins, 2008). Operation system of the organization was entirely different from Data Warehousing. With the help of the operation system, the management of the organization was able to take orders, keep contact with the new customers, sign up with the new customers and identify the feedbacks. The specialty of the organization was that the management is dealing with one record at a particular time. Product and service delivery: From the analysis of the case study, it can be depicted that the product quality of the company is always good. The company was known for producing high quality products. After taking over by Wrather from junior A.C Gilbert, the organization was trying to introduce 50 new toy lines and raising the product line up to 307. At the beginning, the organization was mainly concentrating on the toys of the boys. Recently, at the time of Wrather, the company was focusing on the girls toys also. Wrather has tried to diversify the range of toys so the company has decided to make toys for the pre-school children and aims at girls between the ages of 6-14. For the Quality Management Theory, the researcher is concentrating on the Total Quality Management. For the better analysis of the paper, researcher is taking help of the Joseph Jurans Theory (Improvements in or relating to continuous carbon fibre tapes, 2002). Joseph Jurans Theory is about the Quality Trilogy; quality planning, quality improvement and quality control are the quality trilogy. This theory helps to improve the quality of the products. Statistical process control is the integral part of the continuous improvement. The Continuous Improvement Model includes several processes, Plan Do Check and Act The managers should use tools and technologies to evaluate the effectiveness of the Continuous improvement models and quality management theories. On the other hand, Key Result Area helps to depict the crucial outcome of the paper. Key Result Area is not the result but identifying the important process where the outcome is assisted by the objectives of the company (Improvements in the simple distillation of fatty acids by continuous methods, 2003). The objective of Wrather is to develop high quality products and for this the organization is concentrating on the several key factors like Wide range of innovative toys Toys for girls and Change the packaging of the products With the help of the key system and processes, the management of the organization should understand which the Key Performance Indicators are. The prime Key Performance Indicator is developing wide range of products in less than 12 months and improving the quality of products as the company is known for their quality of products. Along with the innovative strategies, the organization should also concentrate on collection of feedbacks. The collection of feedbacks from the customers helps the management of the organization to understand their choices (Improvements in vacuum reactor for vapour deposition on continuous filaments, 2000). The feedbacks are helping the customers to understand the demand of the customers and this feedback helps to gather information regarding the performance review process. Service Level Agreement helps to play an important role in identifying the relationship. Service Level Agreement is maintaining the service quality. Service Level Agreement helps to maintain the standard of the products and service quality (Keffler, 2005). Along with that, the organization is concentrating on the relationship between the suppliers and management. The quality of the product is depending on the raw materials and if the suppliers are failed to deliver products, in that case production of the company will definitely suffers. From the sales figure of the organization, it can be determined that the organization is able to maintain the key elements of the organization. Gilbert has strong brand image of developing quality products but the price range is high. The supply chain system helps to deliver the products at the doorstep of the customers (Kostevc, 2014). After surveying the market, it can determined that the in 1966, the company has adopted several strategies for making the company a successful one. Jack Wrather has purchased 52% of share of Gilbert. If Gilbert would have strong supply chain management, operation system and product quality then it would have been easier to run the business. After implementation of the Continuous Improvement Theory, the management of the organization can able to understand the performance of the organization (Larson, 2003). In 1962, the company had increased the numbers of sales staffs and put stress on the promotion of the business; later in 1963, the company had been suffering from heavy loss due to the declination of quality of service. Isaacson was the new CEO of the company and he fired most of the staffs and reduced the cost of the company to improve the profit percentage. Due to lack of staffs and heavy promotional activities, the company had suffered a lot. After analyzing the Quality Management and Continuous Development Theory, there are many faults in strategy (Mallick, et al, 2013). If the company had not reduced the numbers of staffs then it would have been easier for the company to run the business. The quality of the products was also deteriorated so it is difficult for the company to sustain. Previously, the quality of the product was very good and company had god growth in the market. Therefore, it can be said that the company has good profit market (Meifort, 2015). On the other hand, the company had no good staff management system and employee turnover rate is high. The result of the 1966 helped to determine the Key Result Area. Gilbert was the leading toy making company of USA and annual sales regularly topping $17 million. From the SWOT analysis of the company, the strength and weakness of the company can be determined. The strengths of the company were: The company had good Market Share Renowned company High Quality products Sales rate high High profit margin The weaknesses of the company were: No ability to change organizational change Standard of customers is not good Lack of innovative ideas Low employee engagement If the company is still running their business, the organization has to adopt changes and make innovative strategies. The company is specially dealing in toymakers, chemistry sets, microscopes and Meccano like Erector Engineering sets. Due to technological advancement, the demands for the technological products are increasing. In order to sustain the business, it is necessary to develop long lasting products with low cost (Mellor, 2003). They have to develop top-quality and highly regarded products. Apart from products, the company should concentrate on the employees also as employees are the key stakeholder. Concentration should lies on the employees. Several internal and external staffs are needed for implementing technologies in production of toys. Task 2: Develop Options for Continuous Improvement The company has not even developed a new strategy for years and the operations of the company are following the same path for years. In the team briefing of 30 minutes, with the help of the Continuous Improvement Theories and Performance Management Strategies, several ideas can be developed for the betterment of the organization (Oboà j, et al, 2005). Employees are the key stakeholder of the organization and management of the organization is entitled to manage the employees in the organization. Gilbert has been suffering from heavy employee turnover due to misleading decision of Wrather and CEO. To sustain the position in the global competitive market, it is necessary for the management to focus on development of strategies and incorporate those strategies in the market. The perspectives of the kids are changing due to the technological development. Kids are mainly focusing on the racing cars rather than the trains (Pinchard, 2004). On the other hand, girls are not in love with the simple dolls any more. They want to have such dolls, which can be moved or changed. Innovative ways of development of toys help the organization to win the competitive advantages (Zmuda, et al, 2004). There are three key research areas, on which the company is focusing and development of three key research areas are helping to generate good competition. From the result of 1961-1966, it can be understood that employee turnover is the main problem of the organization. Due to lack of team management skills and team leaders, the team members are unaware of the organizational goals (Rothwell and Kazanas, 2009). It is the sole responsibility of the Human Resource Management of Gilbert to provide training to the employees so that they can meet the organizational goals. After implementing innovative strategies, the management of the organization has to bring significant changes. The advantage of the teamwork is that the work can be done easily as the employees can able to take help of the other employees or seniors. Team leaders or HR department of the organization should use creative and new techniques to generate new ideas. Training is the best process that can be provided to the employees to meet the organizational goals but there are several risk factors associated with it. Team leaders should understand the appropriate team management strategy for motivating the employees (Training for continuous improvement, 2006). Due to lack of knowledge regarding the teams, the process of management can be hampered. On the other hand, management should understand that all the strategies should be cost benefitted otherwise it can raise the cost of the organization (Valenkevich, 2008). Task 3: Implement Innovative Processes After analyzing several theories, KRAs and KPIs, it can be understood that the best process of maintaining the profit percentage and competitive advantages, it is important to develop an action plans (Trauffler and Tschirky, 2007). Before developing action plan for the organization, the management of the organization should concentrate on the Contingency Plans. The Contingency Plans help to predict the underlying risk factors. In accordance with the contingency plans, the risk factors are: Threat of new entries Threat of substitute Shift in customer demand (Trott, 2008) High employee turnover Low cash flow Low profit margin and Low skilled staffs Based on the risk factors, the action plan can be determined: Conclusion From the above analysis of the paper, it can be understood that here in this research paper, the researcher is trying to depict that the skills and knowledge are require for reviewing the programs, process and system. For the better analysis of the paper, this paper is going to take help of the key systems and processes of the paper. This paper is trying to excavate the role of innovation in A.C Gilbert, this is a toy making and previously, the company had good grab in the market but due to lack of innovative strategies the company is often failed and closed in 1957. Here, innovative strategies are discussed. References Burns, T. and Stalker, G. (2001).The management of innovation. [London]: Tavistock Publications. Dodgson, M., Gann, D. and Phillips, N.
